Hello, I am from X MIA 5, our national hero is Dewi Sartika. I will be telling you all about her and her impact she has given Indonesia.
Dewi Sartika, born on the 4th of December 1884, was known as the pioneer of education for women. She revolutionized a movement for women to have the rights to receive education. She even founded the first school for women in the Dutch East Indies. As a result of her accomplishment, she was formally acknowledge as Indonesia's National Heroes.
She was born to a Sundanese noble family, R. Rangga Somanegara and R. A. Rajapermas in Cicalengka, on 4 December 1884. Her interest in teaching has been sparked when she was still a child. She used to play pretend teaching with her friends in her backyard. After her father died, she lived with her uncle. She received an education of Sundanese culture while under his care, while her knowledge of Western culture was passed on to her.
Since 1902, Dewi Sartika has pioneered education for women. Dewi Sartika has been teaching in front of her female family in a small room behind her mother's house in Bandung. In her lessons she taught knitting, cooking, sewing, reading, and writing. On 16 January 1904, she founded a school named Sekolah Isteri at Bandung Regency's Pendopo which later was relocated to Jalan Ciguriang and the school name changed to Sekolah Kaoetamaan Isteri. In the begining she only had 20 students, but later on she had more classes so that she had to move to another place
